It occurred to me yesterday, that this is the first time in many, many years that I have had the opportunity to watch spring really blossom. From country school, to HS and college, to teaching and even in this part-time position, I have never had substantial time off in this season to watch spring come to life. It always really seemed to just get away from me . . . one day it was spring-ish - warm days and cool nights, plants popping up and the days getting longer . . . and then the next it was summer and the rush to get the garden in, clean up the beds, begin mowing all began at once. It may appear on the calendar as though all the seasons get equal billing time, but true spring really does not exist for more than a few weeks.
So this year it has been nice to watch spring slowly emerge, as it probably does every year. Ruby and I have been enjoying the sunny mornings, rainy days, cool breezes and slower pace of life. (August, Ruby and I enjoy all those same things, but NOT at a slower pace. Need I explain? I think not.)
In celebration of spring, I present to you the simple signs that spring is really here.
:: Sun tea 'sunning' on my front step. (My horrible, worn-beyond-repair front steps. Just look at the tea and pretend you're drinking it!)
:: Sidewalk artwork by my most talented son.
:: A tulip!
:: This could be my favorite sign . . . Monday morning I was in the shower and August decided to let himself out of the house. When I finally found him, he was outdoors in his bear pj's and snow boots. "I'm here, Momma. I just picking up sticks so I can mow." This kid lives for mowing, and Daddy told him before we could mow, we must pick up the sticks. So every tiny little twig found its way onto the trailer.
:: The toolman readying his tools.
:: Someone awaiting a stroll in the 'droller.
:: weather warm enough for just unders!
:: A baby. Yes, a baby. Babies are signs of spring, yes? New life, a March baby . . . yep. Signs of spring.
